Have the faith of Abraham they said, this is the gold standard of faith. I mean, he’s the father of faith right?

So, what did he do to get that moniker? Was he some kind of giant in regards to hearing Jehovah and instantly obeying? Not so much!

Abram came from a pagan land and his preconceptions of God had to be demolished.  As Jehovah broke into Abram’s world with divine revelations of provision and family legacy there was belief. Direct intervention and visitation by THE LORD will rattle your whole world.  Obedience was his response, with the glaring exception of Ishmael which caused generational strife and a few more stumbles along the path.  However that just goes to show Abram’s faltering obedience and doubt could not invalidate the promises of Jehovah or His limitless goodness.

In all Abram’s instances of heavenly visitation Jehovah made multiple unconditional promises. Fulfillment was totally the responsibility of Jehovah, in one instance Abram was literally asleep through the whole thing.  To settle the question of who was ultimately responsible a new name was shared with Abraham after the events on mount Moriah.  Where Jehovah met Abraham in the midst of his own delusion about worship, through child sacrifice.  THE LORD revealed Himself as Jehovah Jireh, “The God who provides” with a ram stuck in a thicket sparing Issac’s life. Thus settling the question of who is responsible for the provision of our salvation even before the cross of Christ.

So our faith, like that of Abraham is not something we must work up.  It’s never a question of believing harder or better on our part.  It’s the revelation that salvation to all mankind was settled in eternity past when Christ was crucified before the beginning of time.  As is clear in Revelation 13:8 which speaks of “the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world”   The cross was not some response cooked up to fix the problem of Adam.  It was the plan all along, Yahweh always planned on entering our deluded dimension and allowing us to pour out our wrath on His Son to satisfy our twisted idea of Religious sacrifice.  His submission to our evil destroyed the whole basis of our deception and ended once and for all the lie that we had to reach out to God.  We were in His hand all along but were simply blind to the truth.

So let’s acknowledge that the work of salvation is already accomplished for us and rest in the loving arms of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
